The nila is already dosed for the face, so you apply the mask as it is, with nothing to weigh or mix, for a brighter, more even-looking complexion in a 10 to 15-minute weekly ritual.

Green Mood Nila Mask, Moroccan blue face mask made with nila

Ingredients of the Nila Mask

  • Nila (Indigofera suffruticosa): a blue plant pigment traditionally used in the beauty rituals of southern Morocco.
Nila is not a clay or a mineral powder.
  • Kaolin: a soft white clay that serves as the base of the mask and gives it its texture.
  • Pure Argan Oil.
  • No added colorants and no unnecessary additives. The full ingredient list is printed on the packaging.
  • Two sizes: 80 g to discover the mask, 150 g for regular use.

Nila Mask ingredients: Moroccan nila and kaolin

What is Moroccan nila?

Nila is the blue pigment of Indigofera suffruticosa, a plant of the indigo genus.
In southern Morocco and the Sahara, it is traditionally part of women’s beauty rituals, especially before weddings and family celebrations, to give the face a fresher, more luminous look.

Because it is a pigment and not a clay, nila is used in very small amounts, mixed into a base.

That is why it is sold either as a raw powder, which you dose yourself, or already blended into a mask, as in the Green Mood Nila Mask.

Nila mask or Raw nila powder?

Nila is a very concentrated pigment. For a face mask, you need only about the tip of a knife per tablespoon of base.
Use more and the mix turns deep blue, marks skin and towels more easily, and does nothing extra for the complexion.

Raw powder also raises a second question: what else is in it, since its composition is rarely listed.

The Nila Mask settles both points:

  • The dosing is done for you, consistently from one jar to the next.
  • The composition is listed on the packaging.
  • The texture is stable: no mix to prepare before each use.
  • It is made in Morocco, certified ISO 22716 (good manufacturing practice for cosmetics).

Nila mask benefits: what to expect

  • Right after rinsing: skin that feels softer and looks fresher.
  • Over the weeks: with regular use for 4 to 6 weeks, a complexion that looks brighter and more even.
  • A moment of care: a 15-minute ritual, once a week.

Results vary from one skin to another. The mask is a radiance ritual, not a treatment for pigmentation disorders.

How to use the Nila Mask:

  1. Cleanse your face with a gentle soap, such as our Saffron Soap, then pat dry.
  2. Scoop the mask with a clean spatula and apply a thin layer, avoiding the eye area and lips.
  3. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes (5 minutes for a first use or sensitive skin). If the mask starts to feel tight, mist it with a little rose floral water.
  4. Rinse with lukewarm water. If a faint blue tint remains, massage in a few drops of prickly pear seed oil and rinse again.
  5. Moisturize with a cream such as our prickly pear and hyaluronic acid cream.

On the body: apply locally to damp skin, for example after a hammam, leave on for a few minutes, then rinse.

How often to use it

  • Once a week for normal, combination or oily skin.
  • Every 10 to 15 days for dry or sensitive skin.
  • Never daily: using it more often does not speed up results.

Allow 4 to 6 weeks of regular use before judging the effect on your complexion.

Which skin types

The Nila Mask suits normal, combination and oily skin. For dry skin, keep it on for 5 to 8 minutes and moisturize straight after.

For sensitive or reactive skin, do a patch test on the inside of your elbow first and wait 24 hours.

Avoid it on damaged or irritated skin, just after waxing, or on the same day as a strong scrub.

Nila, ghassoul or green clay?

Three Moroccan masks, three different jobs:

  • Nila: a blue plant pigment, used for a brighter, more even-looking complexion.
  • Ghassoul (rhassoul): a cleansing clay from the hammam, suited to combination and oily skin.
  • Green clay: a very absorbent clay for oily skin and blemishes.

They work well side by side: many people keep nila for radiance and ghassoul for the weekly hammam cleanse.

Complete your glow routine

The mask takes its place once a week in a simple routine: cleanse, mask, then serum and cream.
On the other days, the Radiance Serum with niacinamide and vitamin C carries on the work, and the Saffron and Vitamin C Radiance Mask makes a good alternate weekly mask.

For a full hammam ritual at home, see our Hammam Essentials Kit.

Frequently asked questions

What is a nila mask?

A nila mask is a face mask made with nila, the blue pigment of Indigofera suffruticosa, blended into a base such as clay.
It is traditionally used in Morocco for a brighter, fresher-looking complexion. The Green Mood Nila Mask uses a kaolin base.

What are the ingredients of the Nila Mask?

Moroccan nila and kaolin, with no added colorants. The full ingredient list is printed on the packaging.

Do I need to mix it with water?

No. The nila is already dosed in its kaolin base: simply apply a thin layer to clean skin. If the mask feels tight while it is on, a few sprays of floral water are enough.

How long should I leave the nila mask on?

10 to 15 minutes for regular use, 5 minutes for a first use or sensitive skin, and 5 to 8 minutes for dry skin.

Does it stain?

The nila pigment can mark light-colored towels and sink grout, so use a dark towel.
A faint blue tint on the skin comes off with a few drops of plant oil followed by a rinse.

When will I see results?

Right after rinsing, skin looks fresher and feels softer. For a brighter, more even-looking complexion, allow 4 to 6 weeks of weekly use. Results vary from one skin to another.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes, with a short application time. Do a patch test on the inside of your elbow 24 hours before the first use, and stop if you notice redness, itching or a burning feeling.

80 g or 150 g?

The 80 g jar lets you discover the mask. The 150 g jar suits weekly use over several months.

Can I use it during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Ask your healthcare professional before using any new skincare product during this time.

Where is it made?

In Morocco, certified ISO 22716.

Do you ship to my country?

We ship to the UK, Europe, North America, the Gulf and most other countries, with free shipping on orders over 150 €.
